The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has released the SSC CHSL 2023 Notification, along with an updated exam pattern and syllabus. Candidates must be familiar with the latest SSC CHSL Syllabus 2023, which is available on the SSC website.

Tier – I Objective Multiple Choice Computer Based Test (online)
Tier – II Objective Multiple Choice + Skill Test & Typing Test Tier-II will include three sections having two modules each Computer Based Test (online)

Mode of Selection:

Minimum qualifying marks in Tier-I, and Section-I, Section-II & Module-I of Section-III of Tier-II Examination are as follows:

  • UR : 30%
  • OBC/ EWS : 25%
  • All other categories : 20%

SSC CHSL Tier-I Exam Pattern

  1. The SSC CHSL Tier 1 exam is a computer-based test (CBT) that is conducted online.
  2. Candidates are given a total of 60 minutes to answer 100 questions, (2 marks each Question). The total marks for the Tier 1 exam are 200.
  3. For every wrong answer, 1/2 marks will be deducted from the candidate’s total score.

SSC CHSL Tier-I Syllabus

The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) conducts the Combined Higher Secondary Level (CHSL) exam in three levels: Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3. The syllabus for each level is different. General Awareness Syllabus for SSC CHSL (Tier-I)

Questions are designed to test the candidates’ general awareness of the environment around them and its application to society. Questions are also designed to test knowledge of current events and of such matters of everyday observation and experience in their scientific aspect as may be expected of an educated person.

The test will also include questions relating to India and its neighboring countries especially pertaining to

SSC CHSL Syllabus and Exam Pattern 2023

SSC CHSL Tier-II Syllabus

Tier-II will include following three sections having two modules each:

Section-1: Module-I: Mathematical Abilities & Module-II: Reasoning and General Intelligence.

Section-II: Module-2: English Language and Comprehension & Module-II: General Awareness

Section-3: Module-I: Computer Knowledge Test & Module-II: Skill Test/ Typing Test

Tier-II will be conducted in two sessions – Session –I & Session-II, on same day. Session-I will include conducting of Section-I, Section-II and Module-I of Section-III. Session-II will include conducting of Module-II of Section-III. It will be mandatory for the candidates to qualify all the sections of Tier-II.

Tier-II will consist of Objective Type, Multiple choice questions, except for Module-II of Section-III. The questions will be set in English, Hindi and any language opted by the candidate in the application form, as given at AnnexureXVI except for Module-II (i.e. English Language and Comprehension module) in Section-II.

There will be negative marking of 1 mark for each wrong answer in Section-1, Section-2 and Module-I of Section-3.

  • To test comprehension, two or more paragraphs will be given and questions based on those will be asked. At least one paragraph should be a simple one based on a book or a story and the other paragraph should be based on current affairs editorial or a report.

Module-II of Session-III (Computer Proficiency)

Part A – Skill Test for the post of DEO/ DEO Grade ‘A’ in Department/ Ministry mentioned at Para 8.1:

The typing speed required is 8,000 key depressions per hour on a computer. It will be assessed based on the accuracy of entering words/key depressions from a given passage.

The test lasts for 15 minutes, and each candidate receives printed matter in English containing approximately 2000-2200 key depressions. The passage may be displayed on the computer screen for reference during the test.

Part B – Skill Test for the post of DEO/ DEO Grade ‘A’ except in Department/ Ministry mentioned at Para 8.1:

‘Data Entry Speed of 8,000 (Eight Thousand) Key Depressions per hour on Computer’ will be adjudged on the basis of the correct entry of words/ key depressions as per the given passage.

The duration of the Test will be 15 (Fifteen) minutes and printed matter in English containing about 2000-2200 key-depressions would be given to each candidate who would enter the same in the Computer. The passage to be entered in the Computer may also be displayed on the computer screen.

Part C – Typing Test for other posts i.e. LDC/ JSA:

The Typing Test can be taken in either Hindi or English, and candidates must select their preferred language during the online Application Form.

The choice made in the Application Form will be considered final, and no changes will be allowed later.

For English, a typing speed of 35 words per minute (w.p.m.) is required, while for Hindi, a typing speed of 30 w.p.m. is necessary. These speeds roughly correspond to 10500 key depressions per hour and 9000 key depressions per hour, respectively.

The typing speed will be evaluated based on accuracy, with a given text passage to be typed within 10 minutes.
